A competitive analysis is a strategy that involves researching your competitors to gain insight into their marketing tactics (Hubspot.com). As part of the Florida Department of Transportation's Support for the I-STREET (Implementing Solutions from Transportation Research and Evaluation of Emerging Technologies) Testbed project (BED31 977-06), I had to determine the social media platforms that transportation technology companies are using, I conducted a competitive analysis of 37 companies. I found that most transportation technology companies used LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and, in one case, Vimeo. Seventy-three percent of these companies use LinkedIn, followed by 68% for Twitter, 65% for Facebook, 46% for YouTube, 35% for Instagram, and 3% for Vimeo. This gives me an idea of what platforms to use for I-STREET and what our competitors post to create an effective social media platform.
